His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, honored the winners of the competition for the best environmental initiative to reduce plastic pollution. The competition was organized in cooperation with the Petroleum Development Oman. The issue of plastic pollution was chosen for the award for this season as it is a silent environmental disaster that leads to its accumulation in the oceans to negatively affect Marine life is primarily a threat to human life. Eleven individuals escaped in the competition, which is the category of small and medium enterprises, volunteer teams and individuals, college students, and school students. About 100 participants from various groups participated in the competition who were judged by five judges representing several Entities from the Environment Agency, Petroleum Development Oman, Bee'ah Company and the Oman Environment Society, it is worth noting that the competition was launched on Tuesday, on Shaaban 11, 1440 AH, corresponding to April 16, 2019 AD, in the presence of 120 invited activists and those interested in the environment and external parties concerned with the issue of plastics, and this honor comes as an emphasis on strengthening Community awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and striving to get rid of all forms of environmental threats to humans and the environment and spread it Awareness against the silent disaster of plastic waste, encouraging the establishment of factories and companies interested in recycling plastic, obtaining ideas and solutions for plastic alternatives, and the sustainability of plastic recycling projects.
