Technology is essential for modernizing the public sector, delivering modern services to all citizens, even in remote areas, enabling and soliciting input from citizen for improved decision and policy making. We have entered a new technological era in service delivery with increasing adoption of Emerging Technologies and it has arrived in government. Oman Government has also embarked the emerging technologies journey to provide government services more efficiently, effectively and have proven result showing how they have created greater public value and transformed people’s lives. Collaboration, agility, innovation and engagement have emerged as driving factors for agency performance and progress will be determined by combining these factors with adoption and integration of new emerging technologies and services. Emerging technologies will change everything – how we work, how we live, how we communicate. This so called 4th industrial revolution can help accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We as Oman also are following the same path and have taken various initiative to gain and spread awareness on emerging technology trends and adoption where such technologies are now helping citizens’ access government services and information in ways that are more pro-active, agile, innovative through adoption of Artificial Intelligence, Block Chain, and Data Analytics…etc. This in-turn, will help us to be well equipped to harness and leverage the power technological innovation to ensure achieving our overall economic vision.

Therefore, we at Environment authority have attempted and applied some emerging technologies in the area of ( Internet of Things, Big Data & Block Chain ) such as:

GIS Web Office open-box

The authority aims at activating the web office application, which aims at linking and disseminating geographical data in an external manner between the authority and the different entities or internally between the directorates and the departments of the ministry in a manner consistent with the information security policy in the Sultanate.
This program is an application interface applied to the desktop linked to the server of the GIS section, which provides the means to search for spatial data and spatial data services, which will serve a large segment of professionals working in the departments and departments of the authority with the possibility of viewing and uploading spatial data sets. It also aims to provide spatial data to users in a manner that complies with the information security policy in the Sultanate and contributes to supporting decision making for planning projects.

  • Inspections and Wildlife Reporting

Block Chain: Radioactive Source Tracking System open-box

The authority , in cooperation with the Block Chain Solutions and Services Company, are seeking to establish a material tracking project, Which aims to use the authority's staff for an electronic system to track the movement of radioactive sources in Oman starting from its arrival to the Sultanate via Muscat International Airport. Then transferred to facilities, store radioactive sources, work sites and in the end re-export by requiring users to use mobile app linked to the mentioned system. The project will facilitate the tracking and control of radioactive sources of users and the extent of their commitment

  • Tracking and control of radioactive sources of users

Virtual Reality open-box

The embodiment of nature reserves in Oman with virtual reality technology with augmented reality so that the user learns about the nature reserves (land and water) and the most important elements, so that we give the user the opportunity to visit the virtual reserve and learn about the nature of life in the reserve. Giving a virtual and enhanced opportunity to anyone who is difficult to visit reserves, especially deep-sea reserves (coral reefs) on the ground, especially those interested from outside the country, thus motivating them to visit reality (tourist attractions)

Drones open-box

The use of drones with high-quality technologies and sensors in several areas related to the environment, such as desertification control, wildlife monitoring, monitoring of violations of wild animals such as overfishing, gas emission monitoring and marine environment monitoring, such as coral reefs. Technology withhold further benefits following:

  • Monitor Ocean Health and Marine Ecosystem
  • Used for investigations purposes and high-risk events i.e. spillages, radiation, damages, sabotage
  • Used for regular and routine inspections, observations and verification processes
  • Monitor greening agriculture, soil health and other factors
  • Support clean and renewable energy projects in monitoring and selection of appropriate sites
  • Monitor Natural Reserves and Wildlife without disturbing the ecosystem
  • Careful monitoring of all environmental pollutants.
  • Monitor and combat desertification.
  • Monitor wildlife and marine life with ease, fast and intelligent technology that eases the burden on the ministry's specialized staff in this field.
  • Environment Monitoring and Inspection
