Oman has a diverse rich seas as well marine life. The sea of the Sultanate of Oman occupy an isolated corner of the Indian Ocean, where some of the world's most varied and biologically productive waters are found. In the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, vast open ocean plains, canyons and trenches of extreme depth abruptly meet the coastline forming underwater cliffs several kilometers high. This contrasts with the gently sloping continental shelf of the Arabian Gulf and northern Gulf of Oman and has resulted in a great diversity of marine habitats.

Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs continues its efforts to prevent environmental risks, especially marine pollution, and protect Oman’s water from any sources of marine pollution. The Ministry observes the environmental risks on an ongoing basis and try to keep the territorial water away from any risk as much as possible. In addition, the Ministry cooperates and coordinates with different public and private institutions in the sultanate in order to keep the Omans environment free from any environmental pollution.
The efforts of preventing pollution is the work of everyone who is resident in Oman as cleaner Omani Seas means all can enjoy beaches, fishing and other recreation activities:
Coral reefs are not just a habitat for marine life but it have a vast contributes in protecting both the ecosystem in particular the one located between the reefs and coast. The coral reef takes part in absorbing wave energy which extends to environmental protection through reducing coastal erosion. Furthermore, it reduced level of damages in case of storms, hurricanes
Therefore protecting coral reef is vital to sustain environment cycle of life and this is how you can take part
Increase planting trees (AShjar Initiative )as it reduces runoff into sea, since such runoff can damage coral reefs.
Wetlands are a critical part of our natural environment. They protect our shores from wave action, reduce the impacts of floods, absorb pollutants and improve water quality. They provide habitat for biodiversity and supporting plants and animals that are found nowhere else.
Here is how we can take part in protecting Wetland nature reserve
